Steve Peterson, Industry Thought Leader, IBM

Mr. Peterson is the primary author, researcher, and thinker at IBM about the future of the Travel and Transportation industries. Responsibilities include publishing points-of-view for industry segments; aligning IBM capabilities to future market needs; supporting global business development at T&T clients; working across business areas to identify emerging industry customer needs, supporting IBM's growth initiatives, and contributing to the management of the IBM T&T business as a key member of the T&T senior leadership team.

Prior to his current role in IBM, Mr. Peterson served for over a decade as a strategy consultant to the firm’s travel and transportation clients globally. In this role he was responsible for marketing, selling, and delivering transformational business and IT projects to airlines, airports, hotels, car rental companies, travel agencies, freight logistics companies, ocean container shipping companies, and other companies in the T&T industry segment.

Peterson has represented IBM on various IATA committees and working groups, has judged various internal and external business competitions, and has fostered IBM’s interactions with industry startups and innovators. His thought leadership has been quoted in the New York Times, the Wallstreet Journal, Forbes, and various industry trade publications. He was admitted to the IBM Industry Academy in 2015 and has been recognized for his leadership within the industry at various conferences and events.

Mr. Peterson earned a bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Public Policy from the University of Chicago in 1998. He returned to the University of Chicago to earn an MBA in 2003. In 2014 Mr. Peterson completed an executive leadership program at Harvard Business School.
