Mr Terry Farquharson | Deputy Director Civil Aviation Safety Authority
Terry has been associated with aviation since he was sixteen when he won a flying scholarship. He subsequently joined the RAAF where he flew a range of operational strike aircraft. In the RAAF he was a qualified flying instructor and he is a graduate of the Empire Test Pilot School.
After leaving the RAAF, Terry joined Cathay Pacific Airways where he held command ratings on Lockheed L1011, B747 and A340 aircraft. While working for Cathay Pacific he managed a cell of test pilots and flight test engineers that conducted company continuing airworthiness flight test program, delivery and acceptance testing for new aircraft, and flight simulator acceptance, development and certification. He managed large projects for Cathay Pacific Airways and was involved in a major restructure and fleet rationalisation.
Terry has also been general manager for a starting airline in the Seychelles and has experience in corporate aircraft operations. He has also lectured in aviation Masters level courses with Swinburne University.
In 1999 he joined the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and for some years managed the Western Region from the Perth office. During that time he was periodically seconded to Canberra to act in various senior management positions. In 2009 he took up the position of Executive Manager of the Office of the Director of Aviation Safety and in 2010 became the Deputy Director of Aviation Safety.
