Dr. Tran Van Binh, who was born in 1949, received a scholarship to study in West Germany in 1968. He first studied at Hannover University and later at Aachen University. In 1977, he submitted his doctor thesis about Ocean Engineering & Offshore Technologies.
After that, he worked for a petroleum exploitation company in Germany. In the early 1980s, he was planned to be appointed as director of a Vietnamese-German petroleum exploitation joint-venture company in Vietnam. But the plan was later cancelled because the German side said it saw no economic benefits from the deal.
He returned to Vietnam in 2008 and established a renewable energy consulting firm in Ho Chi Minh City. Since that year, he has been spending 10 months working in Vietnam and two months living in Germany every year.
He had 6 articles published on US scientific journals.
