Tauriq Keraan, Chief Executive Officer, TymeBank ZA

I have spent ten years building and scaling new digital banking businesses. I am presently the Deputy CEO of TymeBank, a digital bank (fully licensed by the South African Reserve Bank) that delivers financial inclusion to underserviced customers. In addition to driving cross-functional execution across the entire business, I also have direct line accountability for leading our strategy, partnerships, continuous improvement, data analytics, innovation, operations and stakeholder engagement executives.

Prior to my appointment as Deputy CEO, I was accountable for overseeing the build and market launch of TymeBank. I played a pivotal role in the inception of Tyme, as well as its subsequent sale, first to Commonwealth Bank of Australia in 2015 (the tenth largest bank in the world) and then to African Rainbow Capital in 2018 (one of the most reputable black empowerment investors).

I was formerly an Executive Lead with Deloitte Consulting, the largest management consulting firm in the world. Here I worked closely with executives of listed companies to develop and achieve radical growth targets through the establishment of new businesses across the banking, biotechnology, transport, mining, telecommunications and heavy industries.

As part of a secondment from Deloitte, I fulfilled the executive role of acting Distribution Director for the digital banking business of Standard Bank, during which time the sales rates quadrupled and the customer activity rates tripled. I also led the finance and deal-making streams during the creation of, what was at the time, the largest agency banking distribution channel in South Africa, which later became known as AccessBanking at Standard Bank. I was also a member of the core team that delivered several billion Rand in new enterprise value for one of the largest gold mining listings in the world.

My core skills include the leadership of large teams, digital banking design, large-scale retail distribution and deal making.
