Mike Higley is the Vice President of Operations for Southern Africa for FedEx Express Middle East, India Subcontinent and Africa (MEISA), which comprises South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland and Zambia. He is responsible for providing strategic direction and overseeing the company’s operations in the region.
His journey with FedEx Express started in 1982 in Alabama (US), working in station operations. One year later, he was promoted to Operation Manager in Georgia (US), before becoming a Senior Manager of Operations for Indiana (US) in 1985 and subsequently California (US) in 1989.
In 1990, Mike was promoted as Managing Director of Operations, and led several FedEx Express operations while living in Colorado (US), Washington (US) and Georgia (US). In 1996, he moved to Chile, where he was responsible for the operations throughout South America. After three years abroad, Mike returned to the US (based in Memphis, Tennessee) in the role of Managing Director, Training and Operations Support in FedEx Express headquarters. During this time he was in charge of operations training and other operational support functions.
Mike moved to Alaska in 2004 as Managing Director of Operations where he managed hub and ground operations. Three years later, Mike transitioned to Memphis, Tennessee (US) as Managing Director of US International for FedEx Express. In this role, he was responsible for planning, organising and implementing all aspects of the US International operations, which included flight scheduling, load planning and network development.
Mike has been based in South Africa since 2014, as Managing Director. In 2017, he was promoted to his current role as Vice President of Operations in Southern Africa.
Mike has twice been awarded the company’s highest accolade, the Five Star Award, which is presented to FedEx team members for their outstanding performance. He has also been recognized with the President Club Award, which recognizes FedEx sales team members for their excellent sales skills and commitment to excel.
Mike holds Bachelor of Science-Criminal Justice Degree from the University of North Georgia, and a Master of Science-Management Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.
