Andrew Stewart, Head of Middle East and Africa, WorldRemit

Andrew is a senior business leader with over 18 years of international card payments and financial services experience.  

Andrew is currently the Regional Director Middle East and Africa at WorldRemit, a leading digital money transfer company.  Andrew joined WorldRemit in June 2017.   In his role at WorldRemit, Andrew is responsible for the growth and development of the business through the expansion of the correspondent network, incorporating WR in key countries and securing the appropriate licenses to operate international remittances.

Prior to WorldRemit, Andrew spent 16 years at American Express.  His last role was Vice President & General Manager, Turkey Middle East and Africa Global Network & International Card Services where he was responsible for growth and expansion of the American Express partnership businesses across the region. 

He joined American Express in 2001 in the International Payments Business focusing on Strategy and Product Development, in particular Small Business Services and Consumer Charge.  During his time at American Express he held a number of roles ranging from product development and management, strategy, marketing to business development. 

Prior to joining American Express, Andrew worked for a consulting firm specializing in the financial services industry, small & medium enterprises as well as non-profit organizations.  

Andrew was also a Board and Executive Committee Member of American Express Middle East, a joint venture company between American Express and Mawarid Holdings.   He was also a member of the Compensation Committee of American Express Saudi Arabia , a joint venture company between American Express, Mawarid Holdings and Saudi Arabia Investment Bank.

Andrew also held the role of  Chairman of American Express Group Limted Services, an European entity during his time at American Express.

Andrew holds an Honours degree in Marketing and Business Management and enjoys spending time with his family, travelling and playing sport.
