With the development of rail networks in the Middle East and $billions pumped into the transport sector, the GCC is set to see an exponential growth in intermodal transport. Looking into an array of topics, Middle East Intermodal 2019 will span issues on cross border regulation to freight transport safety.

The current investments by governments for improved connectivity across the transport sector is expected to change the dynamics of trade in the region. In a bid to connect the region’s largest ports, 35,000km of planned railway networks is to be added in the Middle East within the next five years. As it stands, Saudi Arabia’s sea ports constitute to the region’s largest port network.

  • Because there is a need to standardize regulations within the region to enable improvements in logistics efficiency.
  • Regional rail operators, such as Saudi Rail Organisation, are experiencing highly positive growth in the demand for its intermodal services.
  • There is a need for regional players to be educated on best practices for intermodal transport - from an International perspective.
