Petros Chronopoulos, Structural Expert, Deutsche Bahn &, Qatar Rail

Petros M. Chronopoulos is a Civil/Structural Engineer currently employed by Deutsche Bahn Engineering & Consulting GmbH (DB-E&C). Since early 2015, he works as a secondee to the Civil Works Department of Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail).  He is involved in both technical and project management roles. His main role includes reviewing/auditing final designs of civil works (Cut-and-Cover, At-Grade & Elevated Stations, Viaducts, etc.) for the Phase 1 of Qatar’s multi-billion dollar Doha Metro Project. He is also involved in the “monitor-and-control” process of the project.
He is a licensed Professional Civil Engineer (Technical Chamber of Greece, 2007) with almost 10 years of significant and progressive experience. He has a solid Civil/Structural Engineering background (MEng in Civil Engineering - National Technical University of Athens/2005, MSc in Analysis & Design of Earthquake-Resistant Structures, NTUA/2007). He is also near the completion of his Doctoral Studies on Structural Assessment & Repair of RC structures (part-time PhD, NTUA/2010-ongoing).
His past professional experience most notably includes working for Penelis Consulting Engineers S.A. and J/V Salini-Impregilo S.p.A. - Terna S.A. at the Site Office during design and construction of “Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center” (SNFCC). This project is a seismically-isolated massive RC complex including the National Library of Greece (NLG) and Greek National Opera (GNO) with a 10,000 m² floating wing-like ferrocement canopy (ENR 2016 Global Best Projects Award winner). Between 2007 and 2015, he participated in a number of civil engineering projects in Greece, most notably with the Greek Ministry of Culture. 
He was also a Research/Teaching Assistant at the Laboratory of Reinforced Concrete (NTUA), contributing to (or leading) research projects and participating in academic activities, gaining extensive in-situ and laboratory test experience. He has co-authored almost 10 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings.
