Mr Khaled Abbas Sayed, Professor & Former Dean, Egypt National Institute of Transport

Professor Abbas has over 30 years of experience in transportation consultancy, research, training and academia. This involved leading & managing transport groups/sections/departments and conducting projects/studies/research/training/teaching in fields of: strategic, urban and transport planning, transport & traffic modelling, public transport, master plans, traffic engineering, traffic safety, parking, road hierarchy, feasibility studies, traffic and environment impact assessment, logistics management, restructuring, privatization, PPP, performance evaluation and sustainable development. He worked in countries including Egypt, Australia, Saudi, Dubai, USA and UK. He is currently Professor of Transport Planning & Traffic Engineering as well as being Expert at Public Transport Agency RTA. Formerly he was dean of Egypt National Institute of Transport (ENIT) and board member of several transport organisations including National Authority for Tunnels, Holding Company for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport Projects, ENIT.  Previously he worked as Chief Specialist of Transportation Studies and Planning at Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Dubai. He was Manager of Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering at Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (SMEC) Australia and is currently acting as Technical Principal.  He held several academic posts as Professor of Transportation Planning & Traffic Engineering at ENIT, King Faisal University Saudi Arabia. He was seconded to Egyptian Military College, Egyptian Traffic Police, United States Department of Transportation, and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. He obtained his PhD and Masters courses in Transportation Engineering from University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He was a Fulbright visiting scholar at University of Texas USA in 1995 and a Hubert Humphrey fellow at Cornell University USA in 2000/2001. He was involved in more than 150 transport consultancy/research projects/studies with SMEC Australia, RTA Dubai, ENIT, UN, World Bank, European Union as well as a number of Egyptian, Saudi and UK consultants. These projects were conducted in Australia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Turkey, Yemen, Algeria, Morocco, Dubai, Qatar, Kenya. He published more than 100 journal articles & conference papers, and attended more than 50 conferences/seminars. He taught more than 35 specialised academic undergraduate and graduate courses as well as designed and delivered more than 40 training courses to professionals from Australia, UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Ex-Soviet union Countries.  Dr Abbas is a member of editorial board of Advances in Transportation Studies University of Rome, Journal of Transportation Technologies – Scientific Research Publishing Inc. - USA. He acted as a reviewer for several international journals and conferences. He was elected as Fellow Member of Institute of Engineers Australia and chair of Transport Branch Canberra. He was also a member in more than 13 international professional organizations in UK, USA, Canada and Egypt and a member of more than 50 committees in Egypt, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, UK, Germany, USA, European Commission.  Dr Abbas received more than 30 awards, plaques, recognition letters/certificates from organizations including RTA Dubai, IETT- Ministry of Transport Turkey and Technical University of Bursa, SMEC Australia, KFU Saudi Arabia, US Fulbright Commission, University of Newcastle upon Tyne UK.
