Dr / Eng. G Betru, is the founding General Manager, the current CEO of the Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) a Civil/ Railway Engineer & Chartered Quality Management Professional responsible for the study of an indicative framework of the NRNE including the concept design , surveying and setting the institutional and legal framework of 5000km of railway line of which 1300km have been implemented & 50% operational, 2800km under planning & negotiation further 900km earmarked. He is also responsible for the mobilisation finance and  the day to day operation & maintenance of the ERC projects.

The building of local capacity to sustain the railway projects involving knowledge and technology transfer has been one of his strong achievements. He also believes that building a total quality management system and state of the art practice including setting current industry standard in ERC to transforms its performance to deliver its  5 years planning.

He is also a strong promoter and believer that building railways brings industrial transformation of any transport corridor and this has a direct link with foreign investment and poverty reduction to people who are living within 60km buffer zone of the railway line.
