In the field of electricity, electronics and related technologies, AFSEC is the Pan-African agency mandated by the Africa Union for all matters relating to standardization and in support of, for example, the Prorgram for Infrastructure development in Africa (PIDA) and the Africa Common Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)
Its members are National Electrotechnical Committees of Africa member states. Its principle activities include recommending standards for common adoption and application by its members and publication of guidelines for application of standards. It aims to increase Africa’s influence on the development of international standards and improve the systems of conformity assessment applied in Africa.
