EDUBUILD MASTERS HACKATHON

Creating education learning spaces for kids by kids

Back by popular demand, we'll be launching our second annual  EduBUILD MASTERS Hackathon  for student teams to address a real-world problem. The 6-week long preparation process will take place from July to October (pre-event at respective schools with special workshop clinics). The Hack&Build session will happen on 3-4 November . The final presentation and showcase will happen on 5-6 November 2019  at EduTECH & EduBUILD Asia 2019 Expo.

Our Objective:

To create a platform where children are encouraged to actively explore problems education and design solutions that tackle the issues with a focus on inclusiveness, learning effectiveness, and creative stimulus.

The Challenge:

We are living in exciting times where innovation can take place easily and swiftly. Ideas are transformed into realities rapidly with the help of easy access to information and technology. (digital modelling and design tools, 3D printing, safer and more efficient carpentry tools, design and building tutorials, computers and user friendly software, etc.)

Increasingly, schools and educators are creating new learning, maker or collaborative spaces in attempt to leverage this revolution. These spaces promote acquisition of hands-on skills, and encourage creativity and critical thinking. In addition actualisation of these ideas are expected to further motivate learners, leading to better learning outcomes.

The Challenge : Design and build a space and/or product that will help achieve the aforementioned objectives. Introduce and/or leverage the ubiquity of information, technology, and/or building tools, while ensuring inclusivity and productivity for the greater community. Maximum size of space should be not more than 200sqm.

About It takes an island

We are a community platform that helps prepare children for a fast-changing future, by exposing them to learning experiences rooted in real world engagements. Our experience-driven programs and activities currently focus on children 10 to 16 years old who come from every background. Founded in 2017, IT TAKES AN ISLAND derives from the phrase “it takes a village to raise a child,” embodying our belief that learning extends beyond home and school, and that it will take an entire island to help children realise their full potential.
