Dr Malcolm Edey | Assistant Governor of Financial System Reserve Bank of Australia
Malcolm Edey was appointed to the position of Assistant Governor (Financial System) at the Reserve Bank of Australia in April 2009. He is responsible for overseeing the Banks work on issues related to financial stability and payments system policy. He is also Deputy Chairman of the Payments System Board.
Dr Edey graduated from the University of Sydney with First Class Honours in 1980. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics, and has published research in several fields of applied economics, including monetary policy, financial markets, and saving and superannuation.
Prior to being appointed to his current role, he held a number of economic policy related positions at senior levels. He became deputy department head in the Economic Analysis Department of the Bank in 1991, before being seconded to the Economics Department of the OECD for three years from 1992 to 1995. Subsequently he headed successively the Banks Economic Research, Economic Analysis and Domestic Markets Departments and was Assistant Governor (Economic) from 2002 to 2009.
