The effect of new business models on how air travel is purchased

Change is a constant and the airlines that succeed will be the ones who move with the times, embrace new business models and cater for increasingly personal customer preferences.

Purchasing models are changing, you only need to look at music, films & mobile communications to see that many industries are using subscriptions as the preferred charging mechanism. And now, it is happening in aviation too, airlines like Surf Air offer subscription only travel but others are now adding subscription based purchasing to their regular sales methods. Subscription travel drives higher revenues by capturing a larger share of each customer’s business and is faster, more flexible, and easier for the traveller which drives loyalty.

It is unlikely that subscription based airline flight purchasing will become the only option, as in mobile communications, but it is an exciting new addition to any Airline’s product offerings. Come and hear how it can be deployed for your Airline.

When interacting in real-time with your customer on-the-go becomes possible

Offering an immediate rebooking schedule by SMS to a passenger that just missed his flight, inform the passengers about a flight delay or a boarding gate change or baggage status on their smartphone, propose a lounge access to specific customers undergoing a long waiting for a connecting flight … These are some examples of what can be real-time interactions with your travellers. It makes the airlines smarter in its customer relationship, more relevant for its ancillaries proposition and provides awesome experience for the traveller. Conztanz, the software and IT consulting company specialized in the air transport industry, will explain how its non-intrusive integration platform can empower digital channels with real-time, context-based and personalized interaction capabilities.

Intuitive self-tagging central to a complete end to end passenger process

Optimising passenger flow and minimising check in hassle are two common airport goals being met by the increasing presence of self-service bag drop machines. The hardware around a self-service bag-drop solution as such is really important, but the real ROI on the investment is in the complete end to end process, and a main (time and experience) part of the process is the passenger tagging a Bag.
  • Challenge for the industry with passenger numbers triple in 20 years in Asia Pacific, and the changing role of airports
  • Investments in self-service to increase non-aeronautical revenue
  • Tagging techniques: Permanent, home printed and RFID
  • The small but disruptive role of easy bag tags in this landscape of changes

Could ancillaries become airlines main source of revenue in 2020?

In 2016, airlines ancillary sales where estimated at $67 billions worldwide. In 2020, just 3 years from now, ancillary sales are expected to be 10 times higher. We would like to share GoQuo’s 15 years experience on offering ancillary solutions to more than 20 airlines in the region, specifically on:
What are the challenges airlines are facing in terms of ancillary sales, the missed opportunities, best way and time to approach passengers?
  • Why are OTAs and other players still getting most of the post flight travel bookings at destination?
  • Vision on an innovative mobile solution that changes how we consume and deal with ancillaries, simplifying the journey and brings all services to the passengers hands when they need it the most.

Providing passengers on board Low Cost Carriers with engaging content and connectivity to the ground – at very low Capex and Opex for operators

So, there are low cost wireless IFE solutions that provide limited packaged entertainment but no air to ground connectivity. Then there are the very high cost integrated high end IFE systems with high bandwidth Satcom air to ground connectivity - which are both very expensive to deploy and in the long run perhaps even more expensive to operate due to the high cost of Satellite airtime bandwidth. Now there is an alternative, find out how our Clarus SAP-212 Wi-Fi wireless Entertainment, Information, e-commerce and Communication system offers extensive multi-media content broadcasting plus real time low cost air to ground connectivity at a very low Capex and Opex for the operators. With bonus of possible ancillary revenue opportunity.

How airlines could avoid failing at Data-Driven Marketing?

Collecting data is the easy part in a world where Big Data is the hottest buzzword of the last decade. Most analytics time is taken up by data aggregation, refining and preparation. This session is about identifying the most critical issues during the marketing analytics process, which in turn allows to avoid mistakes in customer-data-based marketing decisions and prevents making misleading conclusions on customer acquisition costs and the real ROMI of each marketing channel. Several insights that will help any airline digital marketing manager to identify critical spots within the data-driven marketing process, distinguish the most valuable data and choose the most appropriate marketing technology partners.

Digital Press & Mobile IFE

In order to reduce on board weight and costs as well as improve passenger experience, more and more airlines are switching to digital press and mobile IFE platforms. They provide significant costs savings in fuel, logistics and cleaning, but more importantly they increase airline app download, app retention and allow interactions with passengers before during and after the journey. Overall they provide a significant and measurable increase in passenger satisfaction. Initially handing out tablets preloaded with entertainment, airlines are now starting to use Mobile IFE platforms either standalone or integrated within the airline mobile app and available on passengers device.

Airline IT and the challenge of automation

The aviation sector has been shifting to automation to improve efficiency and save cost. While many IT leaders claim that they have the vision towards automation, realising it is a challenge. This presentation lays out the top five barriers to automation, namely knowledge gap, complex migration from manual to automated process, lack of business intelligence capability, lack of quality and reliability and cultural resistance to change. Join RayMach Technologies to hear more details on these challenges and what solutions they have to offer.

What is stopping the industry from going full composite? Bringing hi-tech to Economy Class seats

While we have seen great deal of innovations and better comfort in Business and First Class seats, Economy Class seats haven't changed at all in the past decades. If possible, Economy have gotten even worse with slim-line seats and reduced personal space. Long-haul premium carriers are finding it extremely difficult to differentiate themselves from competitors in the Economy Cabin as there are only couple of seat makers and their products are all off-the-shelf without any customisation. New technologies in manufacturing composite materials will bring huge weight savings for airlines. Using technology such as 3D body scanning in design and nano technology in seat covers will bring new level of comfort also for Economy Class passengers.
