Monique Swart, Founder, African Business Travel Association (ABTA)

Monique Swart is passionate about the African business travel industry.
Through ABTA, her expertise lies in connecting various stakeholders within the industry to resources that will help them elevate their corporate travel role within their organisations.  Be this through hosting events where delegates get access to industry expertise, hosting focus groups, leading think thanks and co-ordinating industry research projects, ABTA’s aim is to spread knowledge and the access people have to global and local best practices.

Monique began her career in the Travel Industry when she was part of the team that launched the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) into the South African marketplace in June 1999.
Subsequent to the success of this launch and the rapid growth of ACTE in the region, Monique was charged with opening an ACTE office and managing the Association’s operations in South Africa.

Over the following 11 years, Monique was instrumental in the strategic expansion of the  Association across the region and was responsible for every aspect of the its daily operations.

In December 2010, Monique left ACTE to launch the African Business Travel Association (ABTA) in order to be more active in providing a platform for the advancement of not only the South African Travel Industry, but of the African Business Travel Industry as a whole.
Monique is a regular contributor to a variety of Business Travel publications across the region including Travel & Meetings Buyer and Business Traveller Africa. She is also a regular on Cape Talk Radio’s early morning Business Travel segment.
