Sue McCarrey was appointed as Australia’s National Rail Safety Regulator in November 2014. Under her leadership, ONRSR is maturing into a fully fledged national operation that is facilitating a safe, efficient and prosperous Australian rail industry.
Sue has worked within the transport sector for over 13 years, most recently as Deputy Director General, Policy, Planning and Investment with the Department of Transport Western Australia. In this role, Sue led a review of port authority governance, metropolitan transport planning and the regional freight transport plan.
Prior to this, Sue was Executive Director, Safety and Strategic Development at the Public Transport Authority in Western Australia which operates the urban and regional rail services, Transperth bus and school bus services across the state.
In these different roles, Sue has been involved in the Commonwealth and state government reform to bring together a single national rail safety regulator for a period of ten years, representing both government and the rail industry during that time.
