Mr Rama Venkta, Project Director, High Speed Rail Group, Land Transport Authority, Singapore

Rama has been with the Rail Group of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore since 1994. Before joining LTA (then known as MRTC), he was working for a Multi-National Construction Company (Bauer Engineers & Contractors) specializing in deep foundation works. He joined LTA in July 1994 to oversee and manage rail infrastructure projects for the Client. 
Through the 22 years he has been with LTA, Rama has gained hands-on project management experience in managing large scale Civil Engineering works for both above-ground and underground Rapid Transit System. These include the Woodlands MRT Line (1996), the Bukit Panjang LRT System (1999), the Station Upgrade Project (2004) and Circle Line MRT Stage 5 (2011) and the recently completed Downtown Line 3 (2016). He has successfully managed a range of multi-faceted and complex rail infrastructure projects within a tight schedule and budget, and delivered the projects safely and to the required quality standards expected by the stakeholders/end-users.
Rama was transferred from the Rail Projects Group to Safety & Contracts Group in Apr 2014 to become the Director (Cost Control) for the Land Transport Authority. As Cost Control Director, he was required him to ensure that the Authority’s interests are protected in the contractual and commercial dealings with external parties in accordance to the established financial controls and cost governance framework.
On 1st July 16, Rama was made the Project Director of the much anticipated High Speed Rail Project between KL-SG. He now helms the new High Speed Rail (HSR) Group under LTA. Being the first cross-border high speed project in South East Asia, his new role requires him to oversee the joint aspects of the project implementation from planning to design to construction and into the operations phase. Rama will jointly manage the common aspects of the project with his Malaysian counterparts to ensure the project is effectively managed and executed by faithfully adhering to the scope and provisions stated in the Bilateral Agreement between the 2 Governments.
Rama was conferred the Outstanding Project Manager Award (Senior Category for Civil Engineering) in 2010 by the Society of Project Manager (SPM), Singapore. He was a member of the Society of Construction Law (SCL) Singapore from 2012 to 2014. He is currently a member of the BMC Council under the Hindu Endowment Board and a Technical Committee Member of the Tunnelling & Underground Construction Society of Singapore (TUCSS).
