Pioneer researcher Doctor Pierre Charneau is a French Scientist and Inventor as well as the Head of the Molecular Virology and Vaccinology Unit at the Institut Pasteur. He is an acknowledged specialist of HIV, lentiviral gene transfer vectors and their medical applications. His discovery of the central DNA-Flap structure (Zennou et al, Cell 2000) in the HIV genome grounded a major improvement of lentiviral vectors and paved the way to 20+ years of development in gene therapy and vaccines based on this gene delivery technology. Pierre Charneau also founded TheraVectys, a biotech company dedicated to the development of prophylactic and therapeutic lentiviral vectors vaccines.
