Mahab is a private institute that was established in 2008 according to privatization policy so as to facilitate the work of Deputy of Fleet Modernization (DFM) and carry out some of its duties. Mahab, in fact, has a coordinating role between ELV recycling centers and DFM. This institute working with 124 existing recycling centers and controls their activities across Iran. These centers produce about 300,000 tons of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals from ELVs annually and sell them to local steelmakers. To improve the overall process of ELV recycling and protecting environment, Mahab working diligently to introduce new technologies and procedures of environment-friendly ELV recycling. In this way, one of the most important missions of Mahab is to actively participate in national and international related conferences and exhibitions to sharing knowledge, transferring technologies and opening up trade opportunities with other countries. In addition, Mahab is working on setting national standards on ELV recycling and monitoring their implementation. Along with these are different training courses that are arranged for dismantlers and their employees. The recently elected CEO of Mahab is Mr. Ayoob Zadeh who has more than 10 years experience in ELV related issues. He wants to infuse scientific approaches into the ELV recycling processes by setting up research centers, supporting academic dissertations, and improving the existing system of authorizing, grading and controlling ELV recycling centers.
