Dr Ramiro L Gutierrez, Head, Enteric Diseases Department Deputy Dir., Infectious Diseases Directorate Chair, Institutional Review Board, Naval Medical Research center

CDR Gutierrez is currently assigned as a Clinical Investigator and the Department Head of the Enteric Diseases Department (EDD) at Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC), Silver Spring, MD. EDD is charged with the development of novel Enterotoxigenic E.coli (ETEC), Shigella, Campylobacter, and other vaccines as well as efforts to quantify and understand the impact of diarrheal disease on military personnel and military beneficiaries. He has been a Principal or Associate Investigator on multiple FDA regulated Phase 1 and Phase 2 vaccine trials and also serves as the Chair of the command’s Institutional Review Board.
CDR Gutierrez’ research interests have focused on the epidemiology associated sequelae of enteric infections; in particular traveler’s diarrhea and C. difficile associated disease. Clinically, CDR Gutierrez is board certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University and is a qualified Submarine and Diving Medical Officer and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
