Jean-Yves Charlier sits on the Board of Directors of multiple groups, including Digicel, and leads investments in high-growth and disruptive digital companies focused on supporting corporates in accelerating their digital transformation.

Jean-Yves Charlier was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Veon in 2015 and led a profound transformation of the $10 billion telecom group serving 240 million customers throughout the world. He is credited with returning the group to growth, delivering substantial dividends for shareholders whilst defining a unique digital future for the business. He also strengthened the group’s portfolio and led the successful consolidation of the Italian telecom market in a €20 billion merger with Hutchison.

Prior to his appointment, he was the Chairman and Chief Executive of SFR, the second largest telecom operator in France, where he led the repositioning of the business in one of the most competitive telecom markets in Europe and successfully completed the merger with Altice in a €17 billion transaction.

Leading up to his role at SFR, Jean-Yves Charlier was the Chief Executive of Promethean, a leading interactive learning company and of Colt, an alternative carrier in Europe. He also held senior executive positions at BT and Equant as well as Wang, where he started his career.

Jean-Yves Charlier has been on the Board of several other companies including Activision Blizzard and Vivendi. He has won numerous industry awards and has been named one of the most influential executives in telecoms. He holds an M.B.A. from the Wharton Business School.
