Tim Gigg runs his own telecommunications consultancy following a successful career in global telecommunications companies such as Vodafone, FLAG Telecom and Global Crossing and is currently a Director of Ontix which is an “infrastructure as a service company” deploying connectivity for small cells. Previously, he served in the British Army, where he reached the senior rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Corps of Signals. As part of his recent consultancy work, he has been involved in work on FTTH, submarine cable systems, cloud services and operational restructuring.
As Head of International Transport Programmes within Vodafone Group, he led the integration of Vodafone’s global capacity requirements for the Vodafone operating companies and was involved with new submarine and terrestrial fibre projects, as well as providing support for global Internet access.
From 2002 to 2008, Tim was the Vice President Operations at FLAG Telecom (now GCX) responsible for their global operational teams and operation and delivery of the international transport network. He brought two new international submarine cable systems into operational service (FNAL and Falcon), developing the operational procedures, as well as leading the working groups involving all landing parties.
Tim is a Chartered Engineer and holds a BSc (Eng) degree. In 2008 he was elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering Technology (IET) where he takes an active part in advising potential Chartered Engineer candidates.
