The National Trust Fund for Tourism Development (FONATUR), as an institution of the Mexican Government tourism sector, was conceived in 1974 to integrate and develop new Integrally Planned Centers (IPC), diversify the country’s attractions, and promote the economic and social development of the regions where these destinations were located. These Integrally Planned Centers have become true showcases of Mexican excellence for stimulating domestic and foreign investment. As a world-class master developer, FONATUR has developed 6 Integrally Planned resorts: Cancún 1974, Ixtapa, 1974, Loreto 1976, Los Cabos 1976, Huatulco 1984 and Nayarit: First Stage- Litibú, 2006 and on February 2009, the new Integrally Planned and Sustainable Center Sinaloa was launched by President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa. The institution is the owner of an immense territorial reserve and has designed attractive schemes that allow it to offer profitable investment opportunities to businessmen from around the world.
