Dr Rafel Prohens | Senior Scientist

Dr Rafel Prohens obtained a Chemistry degree at the Universitat de les Illes Balears and did his PhD in Organic Chemistry working in the field of Molecular Recognition. In 2000 he joined the group of Prof. Chris Hunter at the University of Sheffield (UK) as a postdoctoral research associate. He moved in 2002 to the University of Barcelona to work in Calorimetry and Thermal Risk Assessment and since 2004 he is the manager of the Polymorphism and Calorimetry Unit at the same university. He co-founded the company Circe Crystal Engineering in 2013 and became its Scientific Director. His research interests include the study of intermolecular interactions by means of microcalorimetry, the polymorphism of organic compounds, pharmaceutical cocrystals and the thermal safety of chemical processes. He has supervised two MSc Thesis, two PhD. Thesis and published 45 research papers and patents.
