Jesse Kuiper, Principal Scientist, Analytical Sciences, Merck

Jesse Kuiper received his B.S. with honors in chemistry and biochemistry from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1999 and his Ph.D. in chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005 under Professor Patricia Shapley.  Following his doctoral thesis, Jesse started his career as a Senior Scientist at Rhodia, Inc., in Bristol, PA.  Jesse moved to Merck in 2007 in the Analytical Sciences group in West Point, PA as a Senior Research Chemist where he has spent his early career focusing on the area of drug product performance evaluation.  He  specializes in fundamental understanding of dissolution mechanisms and drug product bioperformance as well as drug product stability.  In his eight plus years in pharmaceutical development, Jesse has been involved in numerous cross-functional efforts aimed at improving the fundamental understanding of product performance and prediction of bioperformance.  He has been at the forefront of enabled product formulation efforts at Merck and has led analytical sub-teams on product development efforts.  Currently Jesse is now a Principal Scientist who leads a large cross-functional product development team in Merck’s Infectious Diseases franchise.  He also leads the Predictive Technologies cross-functional team, which focuses on the improvement of existing technologies (dissolution, modeling) as well as the evaluation of new technologies to aid in the prediction of product performance.
