The Office of Research & Development (ORD) of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is the chief administrative unit and catalyst for advancing research and economic development at UMB. ORD furthers these developments by providing high quality service to investigators, fostering new research and clinical initiatives with industry, and promoting translational discoveries into public benefit in the form of innovation, entrepreneurship, and new company formation. Furthermore, ORD is also in charge of the University of Maryland BioPark, which provides translational labs for University entrepreneurs and attracts Biotech and Pharmaceutical company projects. By 2019, the BioPark will include over 600,000 sf of R& D and GMP manufacturing space. The BioPark continues to have a significant impact on the region’s economic and employment development.
The University of Maryland School of Medicine is also the home of world-recognized Centers of Excellence for vaccine discovery and clinical development, including The Center of Vaccine Development (CVD) and The Institute for Human Virology (IHV).
