My interest in health and science led me to pursue a doctoral degree in Immunology, a field that I find fascinating. I initiated my scientific carrier studying the relationship between hormones and the immune system. Following the completion of my PhD studies I became interested in neuroimmunology and multiple sclerosis. During my first postdoc I studied the role of Galectin-1-glycan interactions in the regulation of microglial activation, brain inflammation and neurodegeneration, finding potential therapeutic implications for relapsing-remitting and secondary progressive MS. Then I joined the Center for Neurologic Diseases, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School where I studied the factors that control T cell activation and polarization by DCs relevant for the pathologic processes involved in MS and identified new targets for therapeutic intervention. At AbbVie, I am currently interested in the bi-specific targeted delivery of biologics for the treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
