Dr swati gupta, exec director, Merck

Dr. Gupta is an epidemiologist trained in Infectious Diseases.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1995 from Washington University, her Masters in Public Health in 1997 from Yale University School of Medicine, and a Doctorate in Public Health in 2006 from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.  At the present time, she is working at Merck Vaccines on the development of innovative partnership models to address cross-cutting issues related to vaccine science and technology.  As part of this role, she is working with key external stakeholders to facilitate accelerated ebola vaccine development efforts to enhance preparedness for the current public health crisis and for potential future outbreaks.  From 2000 to 2014, Dr. Gupta was in the Department of Epidemiology at Merck Research Laboratories.  She has led a number international, prospective cohort studies in support of vaccine and infectious disease products in development, including research on diseases such as HIV, HPV, influenza, dengue, and C.difficile. From 1998 to 2000, Dr. Gupta worked as a scientist in HIV Surveillance at the Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre (British equivalent of U.S. CDC) in the UK.  She has also worked at the Bureau of Tuberculosis Control at the New York City Department of Health.  Her research interests include: longitudinal cohort and database studies to measure incidence/prevalence, and biomarkers/risk factors for infectious diseases, vaccine preparedness studies in the developing world/emerging markets, and public private partnership models to increase vaccine access and acceptance.
