Mr Adwien Dhanu, President, Jayakarta Hotels & Resorts

Adwien has a long and enviable track record in the hotel industry especially as an intermediary between hotel management companies and owning companies. Adwien started out his career in the hospitality business in 1976 in one of the largest hotel chains in the world and the most prestigious hotel address in Jakarta at that time. Adwien’s scope of work was not only locally but included the Asia Pacific region and he was heavily involved during the process of reconciliation between new Owners with the Management Company at that time. In the mid-nineties Adwien joined another company as the CEO and he switched his role from hotelier to developer. Adwien was asked to help the Owner to develop a new hotel company and set up the head office. He also had to choose an international hotel management company which best suited the owner and negotiate the management contract. Adwien had to translate the vision of the owner and merge it with the vision of the hotel management company to create a harmonious relation. But just a year later, the Asian crisis struck and many new hotels with US Dollars denominated loans were at the brink of bankruptcy due to the substantial drop of the local currency against the US Dollar and other currencies. Fortunately Adwien managed to develop relations with the Banks Restructuring Agency and financial institutions and negotiated a restructuring model that saved not only hotels owned by his company but also other companies. In 2006 Adwien assumed additional responsibilities as a President of a local hotel chain where he could transfer his technology, knowledge and experience. He has been there ever since.
