Luc Kupers has a PhD in Biological Sciences. Luc is active in biotechnology for over 30 years: first as a researcher in virology/immunology at the University of Hasselt to become project leader for several biochemical R & D projects in a partnership with a private company. Luc was also assistant-professor at the university.
In 1999 Luc joined Pharming, heading up the R & D group as the Managing Scientist for the development of transgenic rabbits for the production of therapeutic proteins.
Since the acquisition of the Belgian part of Pharming by Genzyme in 2001 Luc’s responsibility moved in the direction of Science and Corporate Development, Communication and Supporting of the Genzyme’s commercial organization.
Luc is the chairman of ACTIP, Animal Cell Culture Industrial Platform, an informal forum of about 40 European companies active in animal cell technology.
He is also chairman of bio.be, the Belgian biotechnology industry organization representing the red, green and white biotech on the federal level.
He recently moved to a new global role within Genzyme as the Program Manager Cell Culture Media Strategy.
