Markus Binkert, SVP Revenue Management & Distribution, Lufthansa Group

Markus Binkert has been Chief Commercial Officer of Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) and a member of the SWISS Management Board since May 2013. Since 2016 he has additionally been in overall charge of Revenue Management & Distribution for the Hub Airlines of the Lufthansa Group. In this Zurich‐based capacity he is a driving force in the implementation of the commercial strategy of Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines.

Markus joined SWISS (and the airline industry) in 2005 as Head of Global Key Accounts & Business Sales Switzerland. Three years later he was promoted to Managing Director and Head of Product & Services. His achievements here included developing and introducing SWISS’s new long‐haul Business and First Class cabins and the then new SWISS lounges.

From 2010 to 2012 Markus served as Head of Marketing, and played an integral part in the development of SWISS’s new brand positioning, which was adopted in 2011. He was later appointed Vice President and Head of Sales & Marketing for Switzerland, Germany & Austria before assuming his present CCO position.

Prior to his airline career, Markus worked from 2001 to 2005 in business consulting as a project manager for Bain
& Co. And before this he was in the hotel business, directing the financial and operational aspects of food &
beverage operations at luxury hotels in London, New York and Hong Kong.

Markus earned an MBA from Kellogg (Northwestern University, Chicago) in 2001, and also holds a bachelor’s degree from the Ecole Hotelière de Lausanne. He is married and has two children.
