Best Cloud Solution

They should be able to demonstrate why their solution is the most appropriate way to deliver the product or service, the commercial performance/cost savings brought by the solution, and highlight innovations brought to the sector. Customer testimonials should illustrate the degree of satisfaction delivered by the solution.

The judges will specifically look for how entrants have addressed issues such as scalability, security and flexibility.

Best Content Solution

The judges will be looking for solutions and products aimed specifically at enabling content/multimedia services for communication service providers. The winning company will clearly demonstrate how their entry is specifically tailored to the content needs of their customers, solving specific problems or offering a solution that is unique in its approach. We will be seeking evidence of innovation, addressing a specific need, as well as demonstrating that the solution is commercially successful. The category is open to all types of content solutions, including, but not limited to CDN’s, monitoring and content conversion solutions.

Best Emerging Market Product

The judges will be looking for solutions and products aimed at emerging markets, not necessarily produced in an emerging market country. The winning company will demonstrate clearly how their entry is specifically tailored to the needs of an emerging market, solving specific problems or offering a solution that is unique in its approach. We will be seeking evidence of innovation, addressing a specific need as well as demonstrating that the solution can be commercially viable.

Best Fixed Access Product

This category will recognise the manufacturer or supplier offering the most innovative, unique or commercially compelling product or solution for the booming fixed broadband market worldwide. All fixed access products are eligible including but not limited to GPON, fibre point-to-point and xDSL. The winner will showcase a single product or suite of products. Judges will be looking for the impact of the solution on the industry, the market or markets the technology addresses, why it is innovative, commercial benefits, as well as ease of deployment and compatibility with existing equipment and solutions.

Best Mobile Network Product

This category is open to manufacturers and suppliers of all mobile network products providing partial or end-to-end solutions for CDMA, GSM, GPRS/EDGE, W-CDMA or LTE networks. The winner will showcase a single product or suite of products. Judges will be looking for the impact of the solution on the mobile industry, what market or markets the technology addresses, why it is innovative, commercial benefits, as well as ease of deployment and compatibility with existing equipment and solutions.

Best Newcomer

This category is aimed at the companies starting to make an impression on the market. They aren’t necessarily start-ups, but certainly 2011 will be the year where they have started to make their mark on the industry. Best Newcomer could serve any part of the hardware and software supply chain.

The judges will be looking for evidence of innovative products and solutions, strong business models and demonstration of early commercial success.

Best Revenue Assurance Solution

The winner will present the best solution for CSP’s to ensure they are billing for and collecting all the revenue they are due. They will illustrate how they identify revenue leakages, ensure correct billing and settlement with business partners, and optimise processes.

The winner will demonstrate the solution that best encompasses business and operational processes and systems, that can be deployed in a flexible manner to suit business today and in the future.

Best Specialist Vendor

The winner in this category will demonstrate how their products and solutions address the needs of a specific part of the telecom market - defined by technology, geography or customer segmentation - and how their foresight and innovation is improving business for their customers. The Best Specialist Vendor may be a division of a larger company, but must be able to demonstrate their autonomy as a specialist in their own right.

Best Support System

The judges will be looking for the OSS or BSS support system that has created the greatest service improvement, cost saving, or enabled the greatest increase in business income. They will be seeking product innovation, ease of use and application, and delivery of customer satisfaction. The judges will look for evidence of improved customer acquisition or retention levels and that the solution is scalable and flexible, that it can cater for new service delivery platforms, service combinations and business models.

Best Transport Solution

This category is open to suppliers of all transport technologies including, but not limited to, backhaul, metro, core and long distance solutions.

The winning entry will demonstrate how their solution is innovative, cost effective and efficient, and also demonstrate that they understand and address the challenges facing operators.

The winner will clearly demonstrate how this offering differentiates itself from its competitors and will also illustrate how it is designed to endure in the future.

Green Technology Initiative

This category seeks to reward the company that has best reduced the environmental impact of telecommunication services through its utilisation of products and solutions. The judges will be seeking evidence of eco-friendly products, innovations, and specific programmes or initiatives.

Outstanding Vendor of the Year

The winner in this category will demonstrate outstanding innovation backed by quality of service, reliability, and sales support. It is most likely that the winner will offer a strong portfolio of products and solutions, and will be able to demonstrate evidence of strong and disciplined management providing a sound business footing, and strategic direction and future scope for development of the company.

Technology Foresight

This award will go to the individual or organisation that has shown the greatest foresight in developing or fostering the development of a technology used or able to be used in delivering or receiving communications services via carrier networks. To qualify the entrant must demonstrate a product or service that has been deployed by one or more service providers and that the technology and/or its application are the original work of the entrant, and that they are not simply implementing another company’s technology.

The Small Cells Award

This award will be presented to the company that produces what the judges deem to be the best commercially deployed small cell technology, including but not limited to femtocells, picocells, and microcells. The winner will demonstrate clearly how they have addressed issues including Choice, Ease of Use, Security, Support and QoS.

Judges will be seeking evidence of original thinking and innovation, as well as evidence of customer satisfaction.

Best Brand

Industry voted category

This is an industry voted category and will recognise the organisation that has created the most recognisable, effective and compelling brand for its products or services through an integrated programme of marketing activity. In determining the shortlist we will consider the value rankings of our partners at Brand Finance.

CEO of the Year

Industry voted category

This is a voted category based on a poll of Total Telecom readers to establish which CEO has the ‘X-factor.’

Nominations will be invited from industry players from which a shortlist will be determined by the WVA judges and Total Telecom editors. Judges and editors may use their expert knowledge to add additional candidates to the shortlist.

The CEO of the year will be the CEO of a telecoms hardware or software vendor, OEM, or outstanding company, who best managed their organisation during the period 1 February 2010 to 21 January 2011.

The top 20 will then be put to a public vote.

The CEOs who make the shortlist will not be judged by company size, nor will they necessarily run the most financially successful companies, but they will be those who have been publicly praised for their handling of a difficult situation, or who have driven forward corporate or industry success.
