Dr Phil Gorey | Executive Director, Enviroment Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum
Dr Phil Gorey is the Executive Director Environment at the Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum. This is the primary State government agency for the regulation of mining and petroleum developments in Western Australia. Collectively, his team of around 70 professional officers assesses almost 3,000 applications each year, and undertaken more than 200 compliance inspections across the mining and petroleum industry.
Phil joined the Department of Mines and Petroleum in 2009, after being a senior practitioner in a private sector environmental consultancy firm servicing the mining and petroleum industry. Phil has nearly 20 years experience in sectors including environmental impact assessment and regulation, regulatory and policy reform, forestry assessments and groundwater management and regulation.
