Mr Ashok Manglick (Tentative) | Manager/Network Support & Consultations TransGrid
Ashok is at present Group Manager/Non-Network Projects in TransGrid, a NSW Government owned corporation which owns and operates the NSW electricity transmission system.
His current responsibilities include demand side response and network support from non-network sources, and collaborative research and innovation in demand management and demand side response with NSW and ACT distribution network companies.
In 2008, he led the acquisition of 350 MW of network support, largest in the NEM, which allowed deferral of TransGrid’s 500 kV Western NSW Upgrade project by one year. The net saving from the network support project was over $14 million which was returned to TransGrid customers.
Ashok has over 25 years of experience in electricity supply industry and has actively participated in the electricity industry reform process and in the introduction of the National Electricity Market in Australia.
He holds BTech and MTech degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, and a PhD from the University of Sydney. He also holds the Executive MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM). He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia; a Senior Member of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers, USA (IEEE), and Associate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
He was the Founding Chief Executive and a Founding Director of the Australian Power Institute (the API) established to provide support for power engineering education and research in Australia.
In 2009, he was appointed an Adjunct Professor in power systems, Information Technology & Electrical Engineering faculty at the University of Queensland.
He is an Invited Expert Member of the International Study Committee C1 on “System Development and Economics” of CIGRE and was the Chairman for 2006-8 term of the Asia-Oceania Regional Council (AORC) of CIGRE which has India, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand and Vietnam as member countries.
His current interests include energy markets structure and economics, power system planning and dynamics, smart grid and demand side response.
