Ow Chun Nam graduated from the University of Singapore in Civil Engineering in 1978. He works for the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in Singapore. He is concurrently holding the appointment of Director for the Circle Line Stage 4 and Down Town Line 3 projects. He started his career as a construction engineer in the Ministry of the Environment, a government organisation and later as a planning and design engineer overseeing sewerage schemes serving the western and north-eastern part of Singapore. He was seconded to Watson SEA, an international consultant, for a period of time to gain exposure in the planning, design and construction of a large sewage treatment works. He subsequently ventured out and worked in the private sector and was involved in the construction of an upmarket commercial shopping centre. In 1984 he joined the then Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRTC) as a Resident Engineer. MRTC was reorganised in the 1990s with two other government bodies and renamed as LTA. Besides constructing MRTs, he was involved in the feasibility studies of the Woodlands extension to the causeway between Malaysia and Singapore, and the North East Line. Chun Nam is a registered Professional Engineer (Singapore) and a member of the Institution of Engineers Singapore and Australia. He is also the president of the Tunnelling and Underground Construction Society (Singapore) for the third consecutive terms from year 2006-2012.
