Dr Saleh al Awaji | Chairman Saudi Electricity and Water Authority
Saleh Alawaji is the Deputy Minister for Electricity, Ministry of Water and Electricity (MOWE), Saudi Arabia, since 2003, Assistant Deputy Minister for Electricity (2000-2003). In 1982 he started his career in Standardization (Saudi Arabian Standard Organization), and worked in this field for about (10) years. He moved to the R&D in the area of Energy, (Renewable Energy, Energy Conservation, and Energy Efficiency). He also worked in this field for about (10) years, the last (3) years of it was the Director of the Energy Research Institute in King Abdulaziz City Science and Technology (KACST), and promoted to the rank of research professor.
He is a member of board of Saudi Electricity Company (The National Service provider for Electricity in Saudi Arabia) since 2003, a vice chairman since January 2006, the Acting Chairman from January 2009 until May 30, 2010 when he was appointed the Chairman of Board. Mr. Alawaji holds a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, UK, since 1990. His major area of interest includes:
• Reform and Privatization of Electricity Sector.
• Regulation of Service’s Sectors.
• Energy Efficiency, Energy Conservation, and Load Management.
• Impact of Energy Production and Consumption to the Environment.
• Development of the Renewable Energy Sources.
• Power Market Development.
