Javier Escorriola has over 15 years experience in private equity and project finance of which 10 years were with Actis Capital (previously CDC Capital Partners.) and since January 2007 as Regional Director of Latin America for Norfund. As part of Actis, he was involved in carrying out investments in Central America, participating in the formation Globeleq, (Actis power company), looking at worldwide investments in fast moving consumer goods, agribusiness, real/estate hotels, and finally working out a distressed portfolio in the Caribbean and Latin America. Mr Escorriola carried this work out of the Costa Rica office, (7 years), London Office (2years), and Miami office (1 year). With Norfund Mr. Escorriola focuses as LP investor in 9 different funds, and direct investment in 5 other projects primarily in the financial sector. In total Mr. Escorriola has been director in over 20 Boards in both funds, and companies. Prior to CDC, Mr. Escorriola worked two years in the project finance and credit department of Banco Interfin, the largest private bank in Costa Rica. Mr. Escorriola has a Masters in Economics of Money Banking and Finance from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. His dissertation was a Multi-Market Model on the Liberalization of Trade. He has a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Finance, and a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Economics, both from the University of Texas at Austin. Currently Mr. Escorriola is the Regional Director in Latin America for Norfund, the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries, investing primarily in Financial Institutions, and Funds focusing at SME’s in Central America.
