Deon Vernooy has played a key role in setting up what is now the asset management arm of Emirates NBD and is responsible for the manufacturing and management of the investment products on the platform of the asset management business. From its inception in 2004, he has been responsible for building and expanding the business, transforming the unit to one of the largest asset management businesses in the region. He currently oversees a team of 50 professionals who manage over $1.6 billion in assets. In a career spanning more than two decades, Vernooy was previously employed in the asset management industry in a variety of senior roles involving investment and portfolio management. His experience has been gained at highly regarded financial institutions such as HSBC, Sanlam Investment Management and Board of Executors. A qualified Chartered Financial Analyst, Vernooy has a strong focus on value investing and his team at Emirates NBD Asset Management was awarded Asset Management Firm of the Year at the 2009 MENA Investor Awards. He is a South African national and holds several degrees including a Honors degree in economics from the University of Stellenbosch and a law degree from the University of South Africa.
