Miss Sophie Tekie, Divisional Manager: Road Management System, Namibia Roads Authority

Sophia is the Road Management System Manager (RMS) of the Roads Authority of Namibia. She served as Council member on the Engineering Professions Association (EPA) Council since 2000, starting as Civil Discipline Representative and as President from 2003 to 2006. She is also the only executive Council Member of the Engineering Council of Namibia since 2000 which is the governing Body when it comes to the practice of Engineering in Namibia. She is originally from Ethiopia now a Namibian citizen, married with one daughter, is a graduate of Addis Ababa University with a BSC degree on honours level and has presented papers, articles on international, regional and national forums on transportation aspects, Road Sector Reforms and especially Road Management System. She joined the then Department of Transport, under the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication as an assistant Engineer in 1990 and since then has climbed up the ladder after gaining extensive operational experience. She has taken part in the Road Sector reform from 1995 to 2000 and joined the RA as the RMS Manager since 2000. She has been part of the team who developed a holistic Integrated Road Management System of Namibia based on international standards which has put Namibia on the map. Mrs Tekie has received various awards and recognitions for best presenter awards, certificates of achievement not only in transportation but also in operational and strategic management, project management, IT Governance, corporate governance and executive management. Her hobbies and passion includes listening to music, service projects towards community developments, reading and watching movies.
