• He was a negotiator in Codesa Multiparty Negotiations from 1991 - 1993
• Deputy Minister of Transport since 11 May 2009
• Was politically imprisoned for seven years (1976 - 1983) at Pretoria Maximum Security prison
• He is a published poet and a writer and his first collection of poems titled Inside was published in 1983, while he was still in prison
• Other collections include Even the Dead (1997) and Inside and Out (1999)
