Philippe Monteyne, MD, PhD is Senior Vice President - Head of Development and Chief Medical Officer, GSK Rare Diseases. He reports to Marc Dunoyer, GSK's Chairman Japan, who is leading the new GSK special unit created in 2010. This unit is specialised in the development and commercialisation of medicines for rare diseases. In this new role, Philippe oversees early and late development activities, including worldwide clinical and regulatory strategies and leading to the launch of internal or newly acquired assets in the field of orphan drugs. Philippe and his team also work in close collaboration with all the discovery organisations of GSK including Biopharma, Oncology, R&D China, as well as all other R&D Discovery Units of GSK to ensure the appropriate transition when internal assets move from Discovery to this newly formed Rare Diseases Unit.
Philippe is also a visiting Professor of Neurosciences at UCL, Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.
