Jackie Fristacky is Chair of the Metropolitan Transport Forum (MTF) comprising 19 Melbourne metropolitan councils as well as associate members from the transport sector. A Councillor with the City of Yarra since 2002, Jackie was Mayor 2005-2006. She is a member of the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) Transport and Infrastructure Advisory Committee and the Victorian Bicycle Advisory Council. Jackie has been a commuting cyclist for some 30 years.

With Master of Laws and Master of Public Policy and Management degrees, Jackie started out her career teaching politics at the University of Melbourne, then law at LaTrobe University. There, she authored a text on Reform of Victoria’s Industrial System, contributed to the development of legal aid, freedom of information and equal opportunity legislation and was a founding member of the Fitzroy Legal Service. Recruited as an Industrial Advocate for the Commonwealth Government, Jackie appeared in National Wage Cases and other major wages and allowances claims. Joining the Victorian Government, she turned to adjudicate employment grievances in Victoria’s Office of Merit Protection and accident compensation appeals as a Senior Member of the WorkCare Appeals Board. She is currently a part-time tribunal member (Veterans’ Review Board) hearing appeals on the causes of disease and injuries.

Through her Council role and as a member and Chair of the MTF, Jackie plays a key role in the public debate on passenger transport modes, contributing to a wide range of government and other inquiries into transport and related matters.
