Intelligent Connectivity
Mr Gordon Dewar, speaking at Smart Airports World MENA 2011

Mr Gordon Dewar,
Chief Executive Officer
Bahrain Airport Company, Bahrain

Gordon Dewar took up his role as Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) at the beginning of August 2010. BAC is responsible for managing Bahrain International Airport and running its operations. His responsibilities include developing the Airport and its services as a stand-alone and commercially focused business and take the Airport through a new phase of expansion and development. Gordon’s previous experience with BAA from 2007-August 2010 at both Glasgow and Edinburgh Airports provided an ideal base for this task where he delivered major expansion projects at both airports with investments of GBP 30m and 40m respectively. The parallel continued growth of passengers at Edinburgh through the worst two years in aviation economic history was founded on partnership working and a commitment to exceptional value for airlines while continuing to offer high quality and attractive services to passengers.

Prior to his time within aviation, Gordon worked for 8 years with bus and train operators FirstGroup and Arriva. He undertook a number of roles across General Management and Commercial functions including Commercial Director for First ScotRail after leading the successful franchise bid, Commercial Director for Arriva UK Bus Division and Managing Director of First in Edinburgh operating bus services within Scotland’s capital city and surrounding area.

10 years of transport consultancy (1989-1999) also provided Gordon with a broad range of experience across all aspects of transport and public transport in particular, and this was gained whilst serving a range of clients across the private and public sector.

Gordon is a BsC (Hons) Graduate from London School of Economics (1989) and an MBA (Dist) graduate from Strathclyde University (2001).

Gordon enjoys playing and watching sport, live music and spending time with his daughters Olivia and Georgia
