Dr Nick Birrell is Venture Executive with venture capital company Innovation Capital where he is involved in all aspects of the VC process, for example the 2006 investment in ophthalmology company Opto Global and its successful trade sale in late 2010 to UK listed company Optos PLC.
He has over 30 years experience in science, technology and finance. He has held a wide range of roles from General Manager of a technology start up to CEO of an Australian investment management company and Regional Director – Asia Pacific of global investment management company INVESCO. Nick has managed multi-billion dollar investment portfolios and been an angel investor in both information technology and biotech start-ups. He has a particular interest in the commercialisation of advanced scientific research.

Nick is an adjunct Professor at Monash University and was the founding Director of the Monash Asia Pacific Centre for Science and Wealth Creation.
