Tim Smart is a Director of HS1, the UK’s first high speed railway and holds particular responsibility for engineering and operations. A chartered civil engineer by background with over thirty years of experience in design, construction, project management and railway operations. Tim’s experience has included holding senior positions in both the construction and operation of railways in the UK. In particular the Channel Tunnel Rail Link [now HS1] which links London to Paris and Brussels by a dedicated high speed line to the Channel Tunnel and the Jubilee Line Extension to London’s Underground system. Tim has previously also headed the engineering operations on some the busiest regions of the UK national rail network.
