Contango Markets

Clive is the founder of Contango Markets and is widely recognised as one of the leading commodity and exchange specialists. His detailed knowledge of the products within the commodity sphere is unrivalled and he has a unique combination of trading and business development experience. Clive’s understanding of individual product nuances, the role of both physical as well as derivative commodity markets along with his understanding of the role of technology in trading and market development has been deployed to support numerous organisations in the development of commodity market and exchange capabilities. Clive co-founded Comdaq Ltd in 1999, a leading internet physical commodity exchange, where he was responsible for writing the functional specifications for, and launching, four of Comdaq’s fifteen markets. He also undertook all of Comdaq’s marketing and press activity, and advised on the trading and development of Comdaq’s 15 product lines. Between 1993 and 1999 Clive was a senior executive at LIFFE/London Commodity Exchange (LCE), where he held the posts of Director of Business Development (LCE), Director - Commodity Products, Market Development and Communications Director and Director – Account Management. Prior to this Clive was a coffee trader for 14 years – first as a floor trader with GNI and then running futures and physical books for the J.Aron Coffee division of Goldman Sachs International. Whilst at Goldman he was elected to the Board of the London Commodity Exchange, was chairman of the LCE options and coffee markets and was chairman of the coffee-grading panel.
