 Mr Peter Strachan,
Chief Executive Officer TransLink Transit Authority Peter brings almost 30 years of experience in the transport industry to his role as the TransLink Transit AuthorityÕs CEO.
Peter was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and educated at the Kirkcudbright Academy and the University of Durham, where he read geography. He joined British Rail as a management trainee in 1980 and worked his way up through various local and line management posts across the network.
In the lead-up to privatisation of the railways in the UK, Peter was InterCity Manager West Coast Main Line, with responsibility for services between London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow. Peter spent four years in Railtrack as Director, Midlands and was Managing Director, North Western Trains in the first two years following privatisation.
Joining National Express Group in 1998, he became the GroupÕs Chief Executive of the Australian Rail Division, running trains and trams in Melbourne, and adding bus companies in both Melbourne and Perth to the portfolio.
Peter returned to the UK in 2003 as Managing Director, Wales and Borders Trains and led the creation of the new all-Wales train operating company. He was appointed Managing Director Arriva Trains Wales in December 2003.
Joining Network Rail in 2005 as Route Director London North Western, Peter was responsible for the West Coast Main Line Ð the busiest mixed traffic railway in Europe - from London to the Scottish Border, as well as Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool.
Peter was appointed as a non-executive director on the Board of Transport Initiatives Edinburgh (tie ltd.) in September 2006, the company responsible for developing and building the new light rail system for the Scottish capital. He was a director of the Institution of Railway Operators and Trustee of the Settle and Carlisle Railway Trust.
