The time has never been better for government and industry leaders to come together to discuss the future of Saudi Arabian urban transport than now
Saudi Arabia’s urban transport future is at tipping point. Familiar legacies like congested roads, overcrowded and insufficient public transport and a lack of capital funding for major infrastructure development are having an increasingly negative impact upon the quality of life of many Saudis.
Nationwide, congestion imposes delay and wasted fuel costs on the economy. The true costs of lack of infrastructure are much higher, however, after taking into account the significant cost of unreliability to drivers and businesses, the environmental impacts of idle-related auto emissions, increased petrol prices and the immobility of labour markets that result from congestion and lack of comprehensive transport system, all of which substantially affect commerce and quality of life.
