 Professor, Dr Michel Goldman,
Executive Director Innovative Medicines Initiative Michel Goldman, MD, PhD, is professor of immunology at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). He has been the Head of the Department of immunology-hematology-transfusion at the Hôpital Erasme in Brussels and the Director of the Institute for Medical Immunology in Charleroi, Belgium. Scientific achievements of Michel Goldman in clinical and experimental immunology resulted in more than 400 publications, leading to his recognition as ISI Highly Cited Scientist in 2006 by the Thomson Institute for Scientific Information. He received in 2000 the Joseph Maisin Prize, a major award for clinical sciences delivered by the Belgian Fund for Scientific Research, and he held the Spinoza chair at the University of Amsterdam in 2001. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the European Journal of Immunology and served the European Research Council as member of the Advisory panel on Immunology and Infectious Diseases. In 2007 he was rewarded the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by the Université Lille II, Lille, France.
Beside his academic duties, Michel Goldman has developed strong relations with the biopharmaceutical sector. In 2006, he was appointed as vice-president of the BioWin Health Cluster created by the government of the Walloon Region to foster partnerships between industries and academic institutions. Since September 2009, Michel Goldman is the Executive Director of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), a new agency created to facilitate the development of innovative therapies across Europe.
