 Prof Jonas Bergh,
Muriel Edith Rickman Chair in Breast Oncology, University of Manchester; Scientific Director Oncology, Karolinska University Hospital; Scientific Advisory Group on Oncology, Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use EMEA Jonas Bergh has recently been appointed as the University of Manchester, Muriel Edith Rickman Chair in Breast Oncology, is based in the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research and will be performing clinical duties at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospital of South Manchester. He was appointed Professor of Oncology Mimi Althainz' donation, the first professorship in Sweden in Oncology, at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden 2008. He was the Scientific Director of Karolinska Oncology 2007-2009, and Consultant at Karolinska University Hospital since 1999. He gained his medical degree from the medical schools of Umeå and Uppsala Universities and trained at the Uppsala University Hospital. Following his doctorate from Uppsala University, he held clinical cancer research positions and special research positions from the Swedish Cancer Society and was Associate Professor of Experimental Oncology at Uppsala University and in 2000 Professor of Clinical and Molecular Oncology at the Karolinska Institutet.
Professor Bergh is a co-/organiser of scientific meetings and training courses for oncologists. He is chairman of the Swedish Breast Cancer Group and has served at the ethical an appointed member of the Ethical Committee, Karolinska Institutet. In addition, he is an external expert for the Medical Products Agency and EMEA (London) and one of 9 members of the Oncology Scientific Advisory Group of the EMEA (London). He has been a member of the EBCTCG Steering Committee since 2005/2006. Professor Bergh was a member of the Priority Committee (1999-2007) and Research Board for the Swedish Cancer Society (2002-2008), and an external expert for the Swedish Board for Health and Welfare (2002-2007). He was an evaluator for the European Union Commission for the BIOMED/6th Framework Programmes in 1995, 1997 and 2003. He was also a member of the St Gallen Consensus Panel (2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009).
Professor Bergh is author/co-author of some 300 articles, manuscripts and reviews, and is a member of the Editorial Boards of Acta Oncologica, Breast Cancer Online, Anticancer Research and Current Cancer Therapy Reviews.
Jonas Bergh enjoys alpine skiing, ice-skating on frozen lakes/the sea and is playing some golf during the summer vacation.
